Volunteer Information Session

Stylist

Stylists (Boutique and Outreach) work with clients to find the perfect outfit for an interview, new job or significant life event. Boutique stylists work with client’s one on one, building confidence and ensuring they feel positive stepping out in the clothes they’ve been gifted.

Specific duties include: 

  • Working in a team with other stylists to meet the needs of our clients
  • Working with the unique styles of each client so they leave feeling confident 
  • Supporting clients who are looking for professional clothing

Previous experience: Customer service skills and fashion acumen an asset.  This role requires a current National Police Check and a Working With Vulnerable Person’s card.

Location: In-person 

Shift opportunities: HOBART – 9:30am-1:00pm, 1:30pm-5:00pm (Tuesdays & Thursdays), LAUNCESTON – We have a DFS hub based in Newham, offering regular volunteering sessions every three weeks, along with additional opportunities for outreach, NORTH WEST – outreach opportunities available

Supporting Stylist

Supporting Stylists work with our more experienced Boutique Stylits so they can fully focus on the client.  The Supporting Stylist will gather additional clothes or assessories as needed and assist with paperwork.

Specific duties include: 

  • Working in a team with other stylists to meet the needs of our clients
  • Working with the unique styles of each client so they leave feeling confident 

Previous experience: Customer service skills and fashion acumen an asset. This role requires a current National Police Check and a Working with Vulnerable Person’s card.

Location: In-person

Time commitment: One shift per month minimum

Career Support

Career Support Volunteers use their expertise to prepare clients for their job search by reviewing resumes and cover letters, conducting mock interviews, and providing immediate feedback based on their career experience.

They are individuals who have previous professional experience in human resources, hiring, and recruitment.

This role requires a current National Police Check and a Working With Vulnerable Person’s card.

Location: In-person & Virtual

Shift opportunities: HOBART – 9:30am-1:00pm, 1:30pm-5:00pm (Tuesdays & Thursdays), LAUNCESTON – We have a DFS hub based in Newham, offering regular volunteering sessions every three weeks, along with additional opportunities for outreach, NORTH WEST – outreach opportunities available

Time Commitment: Varies

Events

Event Volunteers are responsible for helping the Dress for Success team host successful events. There are several volunteer opportunities both on-site at the event and assisting in the preparation stage.

General duties include but are not limited to:

  • Preparing and setting up event 
  • Shuttling event supplies to and from the event location
  • Assisting with attendee check-in
  • Selling raffle tickets

Previous experience: No previous event experience necessary. Being organised, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, and able to take direction are key to pulling off a successful event.

Location: Virtual, in-person, and on-site at the event

Shift opportunities: Communication will be sent out to interested volunteers before the event.

Time commitment: Volunteer meetings in the months leading up to the event and also on-site during the event.

Sorter

Sorters are responsible for selecting and organizing the clothing that ends up dressing our clients. Sorting volunteers will work through the donations provided and categorize them based on their quality and appearance. 

Specific duties include:

  • Sorting and steaming clothing donations
  • Organising the back stock of clothing we receive from donations
  • Organising donations in the sorting rooms
  • Merchandising and making the boutique look clean and tidy
  • Dusting, vacuuming and sanitizing

Previous experience: This volunteer role is a great opportunity for individuals who have an eye for detail and who love organising.  A background in fashion or retail is not necessary; ability to lift moderate to heavy bags.

This role DOES NOT require a current National Police Check and a Working with Vulnerable Person’s card.

Time commitment: One shift per month minimum

Workshop Presenter

Workshop Presenters facilitate workshops on career, health and wellness-related topics to members of the Dress for Success Tasmania community including clients, volunteers, agencies, and staff.

These workshops provide tips and tools to help women and gender-diverse individuals in our community grow, develop, and thrive in their careers and lives.  

Specific duties include:

  • Meeting someone from the Dress for Success Tasmania programs’ team to discuss the topic and structure of the workshop
  • Developing a one-hour thought provoking workshop with relevant visuals that engages participants
  • Creating a workshop title and short description with specific outcomes

Previous experienceWorkshop facilitation experience, content matter expertise, and strong communication skills.

Transporting Donations

Transporting Donation volunteers provide the method of transportation of donations from our clothing drive partners to our Boutique in Hobart CBD or our storage facility in Kingson.

Specific duties include:

  • Collection of donations from clothing drive partners
  • Delivering donations to Boutique in Hobart CBD or our storage facility in Kingson

This role requires a current National Police Check and a Working with Vulnerable Person’s card.

Previous experience: No previous experience necessary but require the ability to lift moderate to heavy bags.

Must have current driver’s licence
